South Gobi Plain is a location in Asia in the DS game first visited in Chapter 2.

Description[]

Map - South Gobi Plain

South Gobi Plain Map

Accessed from Gobi Village in the northeast; it links to Darkwood Forest in the southeast. Bamboo Mountain is in the center east, and North Springleaf Lake is in the center north. South Springleaf Lake, located in the southwest, is blocked off until the postgame; Alpha Droids are higher levels here. It contains Limestone Mountain, located in the northwest.

Story[]

Chapter 2

Seeking entrance to Darkwood Forest to find the next Stone Fragment, nothing required interferes with their progress. The first well-digger can be found along the way in the center east.

Before being able to dig up the Dragon Skull, the player must defeat an Alpha Droid just south of the center to access Drill quest items beyond it.

Main Area[]

Random
Purple frill-head Alpha Droids (Tail Attack, Tackle, Swing) [50 chell]
  • Tarbosaurus S (Defense) LV13; Camarasaurus P (Tie) LV14; Eucentrosaurus R (Defense) LV15; Sauropelta S (Tie) LV13; Tsintaosaurus P (Defense) LV14; Monolophosaurus R (Defense) LV15
    • Starts by blocking player's Critical Move; copies player's last winning move. May on any turn use their Critical Move. Loses to the previous tying move.
    • Whether each Dinosaur will use a different move after being hit by a Critical Move varies by Dinosaur and area of the map. In the east region and central area (with the hopeless romantic NPC), no Dinosaur will; in the areas north and south of Springleaf Lake (beyond the open gate and bridge, respectively), only Tarbosaurus, Eucentrosaurus, and Tsintaosaurus will.
    • "Ah ha ha! This ought to do the trick."—variants are common Alpha Droid phrases for many areas from here on indicating a Critical Move.
    • "Hmm… What a conundrum."—a common Alpha Droid phrase for many areas from here on; if 2 options for player, ties their stronger one (not always followed if silent).
    • "Ah ha ha! I will stay the course!"—variants are common Alpha Droid phrases for many areas indicating repeating a win.
Static (optional)
Purple frill-head Alpha Droid [600 Exp, 200 chell; very rare Medium Dino Drink]
  • Iguanodon S (Blitz) LV15 (Boomerang Tail, Revenge Horn, Pursuit)
  • Saltasaurus R (Attack) LV15 (Ambush, Critical Block, Dino Swing)
    • Starts by losing to its Critical Move; uses a non-Critical move if hit by a player’s non-Critical and beats the player's winning Critical Move. May on any turn repeat their last move {?}, use any move tied for highest MP remaining, or use their Critical Move. Loses to the previous tying move.
    • "I should play it safe here."—if 2 options, uses stronger one.
    • "Hmm, what a conundrum."—if 2 options for player, ties their stronger one.
    • "Uh-oh. I won't take any chances here."—if 2 options for both it and player, uses its stronger one.
Static (optional before Rod, required before Zander)
Purple frill-head Alpha Droid [640 Exp, 200 chell]
  • Tsintaosaurus P (Defense) LV16 (Attack Surge, Serial Slash, Attack Boost)
  • Shunosaurus R (Counterstrike) LV16 (Tie Blow, Heavy Kamikaze Tackle, Move Super Block)
    • Starts by using the player's Critical Move; uses a non-Critical move if hit by a player’s non-Critical and beats the player's winning Critical Move. May on any turn beat player’s move with the most MP remaining or use their Critical Move. Beats the previous tying move. Silent very often.
    • "I should play it safe here."—if 2 options, uses stronger one.
    • "Hmm, what a conundrum."—if 2 options for player, ties their stronger one.

South Springleaf Lake[]

This section of South Gobi Plain is blocked off until the postgame. Different hints are used between the South Springleaf Lake area between the gate and the bridge heading north, and the Limestone Mountain area north of the bridge. {poorly documented}

Random
Red Super Alpha Droids (Super Tail/Tackle/Swing; strong to Critical, Fusion if Critical S, 6MP otherwise) [200 chell]
  • Tarbosaurus S (Defense) LV57 (Tornado Fire Cannon (R))
  • Camarasaurus P (Tie) LV58 (Tragic Sphere (S))
  • Eucentrosaurus R (Defense) LV59 (Lightning Spear (P))
  • Sauropelta S (Tie) LV57 (Electric Spines (R))
  • Tsintaosaurus P (Defense) LV58 (Big Foot Assault (S))
  • Monolophosaurus R (Defense) LV59 (Tornado Toss (P))
    • South Springleaf Lake: Starts by blocking player's Critical Move, Monolophosaurus instead starts by using the same Sign as its Hidden Move, which beats its Critical; copies player's last winning move, and uses a different move if hit by a Critical Move. Loses to the previous tying move. On any turn: at least Tarbosaurus may use a move tied for most MP remaining; only Monolophosaurus will use a move that beats any player's move tied for the most MP remaining; at least Camarasaurus may use its Critical Move.
    • Limestone Mountain: Starts by blocking player's Critical Move; uses a non-Critical move after being hit by a non-Critical, and copies the player's winning Critical Move. May on any turn beat any player move tied for the most MP remaning. Loses to the previous tying move {Tarbosaurus unlikely to if silent}. All except possibly Eucentrosaurus may on any turn use their Critical Move.
    • In at least one of the areas, Eucentrosaurus and Sauropelta may on any turn use their Critical Move.
    • "Ha ha ha! I'll just keep this up!"—repeat win (South Springleaf Lake only).
    • "I can read you like a book!"—beats their last winning move (Limestone Mountain only).
    • "Hmm… Read my move, did you? Better not use my Critical Move…"—uses non-Critical if hit by non-Critical (Limestone Mountain only).
    • "Hmmmmm… Your Critical Move…"—copies player's Critical (Limestone Mountain only).
    • "Hmmmmm… This ought to do the trick!"—Critical (unclear conditions).
    • "Ha ha ha! This ought to do the trick!"—Critical (unclear conditions, at least Limestone Mountain).
    • "This opponent's pretty good… What a conundrum…"—if 2 options for player, ties their stronger one.
