The North American species S. osborni is noticeably smaller than the Asian S. angustirostris. The portrayed size and presence of the bumpy ridge down its back suggests Dinosaur King's Saurolophus species is S. angustirostris.

Dinosaur King[]
The two Saurolophus cards were separated when Zander tripped over their Card Capsule while wandering the Mexico desert in Dinosaur Amour!. The wind blew the orange-crested Saurolophus' card away into some plants, activating it, though Zander had already stowed the second card back in the Capsule before fainting of dehydration. This dinosaur later chased Zander and Reese, who it could tell had the green-crested Saurolophus' card in the Capsule. It fought against Terry, but when Chomp saved it, it went after Reese and Zander again. Zander accidentally let the green-crested Saurolophus card fly to a cactus and activate, and the two Saurolophus shared a brief happy reunion. Terry tried to attack them but was defeated by Chomp's Lightning Spear. Then Ed summoned Spiny and Tank, and after they defeated Chomp, they attacked the Saurolophus pair; the orange-crested Saurolophus was easily defeated by Spiny and the green-crested Saurolophus was easily defeated by Tank by knocking them onto the ground. Max grabbed orange's card, and Zander picked up green's card, but gave it to Reese, saying the two, who love each other, shouldn't be separated.
An orange-crested Saurolophus briefly appeared in Max's dream in Metal Imbalance as part of the crowd of dinosaurs asking for him to "save us".
Another orange-crested Saurolophus was brought to the present day by the Backlander malfunctioning in Dinosaur War! when Seth used the copied Stones to run it, but was returned after the time circuits failed following the Black T. rex's defeat.
Mesozoic Meltdown[]
A recolored wild Saurolophus was among a group of herbivores attacked by Terry in Alien Parent Trap.
An orange-crested Saurolophus was on the Space Pirate Ship, being released by Dr. Drake in Desert Heat to distract the Gel Jarks and let the D-Team's parents escape.
In the finale, two Saurolophus, orange- and green-crested (likely the original pair), were seen together with Dr. Z and Supersaurus in the Backlander's Mesozoic forest projection after the defeat of the Space Pirates.
Character Design[]
Personality[]
Not much is known about the personality of the Saurolophus couple since they had a short screen time before being defeated. However, they seems to have a caring & peaceful nature, though being weak in terms of combat as they quickly fell to Spiny and Tank with a single hit each. While both Saurolophus turned out to be weak in battle, the orange-crested one still seems to be a bit stronger as it was able to withstand Terry for a while.
Trivia[]
- Dr. Taylor's arcade comments:
- Japanese: 大型の草食恐竜だ。鼻のほねがのびてできたトサカが後頭部につき出している。
- English: A large herbivore with a crest that stretches out behind its head. The crest is an extension of its nasal bones.
- Taiwanese: 大型的草食恐龍,鼻骨沿生出來的頭冠長在後頭的部分。
- DS Game Encyclopedia entry: A large herbivore with a small crest. The crest is an extension of its nose bones.
- It is the second Gold rarity Grass Dinosaur card in the arcade.
- Along with Parasaurolophus, Lambeosaurus, Shantungosaurus, Maiasaura, Iguanodon, Tsintaosaurus, Ouranosaurus, Altirhinus, Corythosaurus, and Muttaburrasaurus, it is one of the available dinosaurs in the Japanese and Taiwanese non-sale Grass Egg card.
- Its DS model appears to be rendered with its mouth stuck open by default, opening wider but never fully closing, giving it an awkward appearance. This is not the only mouth error among DS models.
- After their simultaneous defeats, the Saurolophus card that lands at Reese's feet is the orange-crested one, but when Zander picks up the card and gives it to her, it is the green-crested Saurolophus card (the image on the card Max picks up is simply a blank blue square for animation simplicity).
- Though neither stated nor suggested anywhere, it is possibly assumable that the orange-crested Saurolophus is the male and the green-crested one is the female.
- In reality, fossil records of sexual dimorphism in hadrosaurs like Saurolophus show that males and females differ in body size and in the shape of their crests instead of simply crest color. However this may have been done to make things less of a headache.
- Saurolophus' roar (or at least the orange-crested one's, as green never made a sound) is the same as that of many other Grass Dinosaurs: Maiasaura, Iguanodon, Shantungosaurus, and Lanzhousaurus.
- It is one of the dinosaurs that was defeated by the Alpha Gang, but claimed by the D-Team. The other ones were Ceratosaurus, Daspletosaurus, Euoplocephalus, Megaraptor, Anchiceratops, Torosaurus, Deltadromeus, Iguanodon, Fukuisaurus, Jobaria, and the second Carcharodontosaurus.
