Fusion Moves (they or similar are also called Combo Moves in later English dub episodes; Gattai Waza or "Union Moves" in the Japanese anime) are special, very powerful attacks that combine two or more Super Moves (no known source involves Normal Move fusions). They are seen in the anime, DS game, and TCG, but do not appear in the arcade game.

Anime[]

In the anime, Fusion Moves occur when two dinosaur users slash their Move Cards at the same time, synchronizing them into a single attack that is twice as powerful as before.

Several cases of Fusion Moves are seen. The first true Fusion Move was Thunder Storm Bazooka debuting in One Final Move!, combining Thunder Bazooka and Cyclone to defeat Saurophaganax and later Torvosaurus, with Yangchuanosaurus being recalled out of the way. One was used against the Black T. rex, when 14 dinosaurs merged their attacks in order to break though Fire Scorcher and hit it in Dinosaur War!; it had to connect three times to defeat it. Dr. Z had Terry and Spiny combine Volcano Burst and Shockwave to blast a target Ursula, Zander, and Ed were holding in Desperately Seeking Spartacus (it was unnamed, and is never used again). Another was used by the 6 main dinosaurs in order to break through the Dark Pterosaur's outer shell in Fate of the Cosmos.

When Ace twice uses Cyclone to suck up water and turn his attack into a "Hurricane", it is similar to what a Fusion Move from the DS Game would be (see below) (although this was not used by merging two moves, just Cyclone and water from the sea and a river). And when Chomp and Torosaurus combine their Lightning Strike Move Cards to defeat Terry in Rhino or Dino?, it is basically a Fusion Move where both Moves come from the same element.

At various points, such combination attacks are called either "fusion moves" or "combo moves". While there seems to be little correlation between title and effect, "fusion moves" typically involve the effects of two or more Moves combining, or their energies forming a single blast, while "combo moves" (usually said in season 2) tend to involve two or more clearly separate attacks simply hitting the same opponent at the same time, and are not distinct enough to note here.

DS Game[]

The DS Game also features Fusion Moves. They are Super Moves that merge a second Elemental Attribute onto a known Move Card, specifically the arcade's original Attack Move trio for each Attribute, which are also all parallel to each other under DS mechanics; the added Attributes are the one weak to the base Attribute and the next two past it, never the two at and past the one stronger than the base Attribute. When used under ordinary conditions, DS Fusion Moves use their underlying Move's same animation with x1.6 Attack Power, being slightly stronger than the originals' x1.5, but without the effect of summoning the corresponding Battlefield. When used on the Battlefield of the Fusion Move's second Attribute, however, graphics of the second Attribute are added into the animation (and the camera angle changes), now giving the Move x3.0 Attack Power, the highest boost of any DS Move Cards (ignoring percentage-based damage or auto-KO effects); this, however, means Fusion Move users can never gain an attack boost from the current Battlefield, which may also be boosting their target's defense. Oddly, every dinosaur can create two of the Fusion Moves' cards for their Attribute (based on Critical Move Sign), while only certain dinosaurs can create the underlying Moves' cards (based on Rarity), and even then only one each.

For details, see TCG Move Cards#Fusion Moves

In the TCG, Fusion Moves are also seen, and are similar in idea to those from the DS Game, adding an element to a pre-existing Super Move. In fact, the card artworks are arcade Move Cards with the addition of graphics representing a second Element, or in some cases, a recognizable second Move Card; the fused Elements are paired from within the D-Team/Alpha Gang Element trios, never reaching across. The cards act as ordinary Super Moves used by one Dinosaur, but also require a Dinosaur of the fused Element to be on your field at the same time. There are two Fusion Moves per Element, each fusing the same second Element: a weaker one (+800 Power) with an added standard Ability from the other Element, and a stronger one (+1500 Power) with no effect but an Icon both Dinosaurs must match. The Signed Fusion Moves give the highest Power boost of any TCG Move Cards.
