Dinosaur King

Page in Progress. Still more details on most battles to identify.

This is a list of all DS Game Battles. It is divided by continent sub-area, listing the available random encounters followed by static Alpha Droids and Alpha Gang bosses in order of encounter (refer to the Walkthrough for more details) and describing special cases and post-game content as appropriate. Static Droids are noted as being placed to either be required or skippable; all bosses are required.

Listed for each opponent is their Experience (10x level if random encounter) and chell (money) payout, any possible item drops static encounters may give, each of their dinosaurs (with level and Moves), and commenting on their usual strategies (which may vary both during and between battles, especially among static encounters). Any turn an Alpha Droid fails to give a hint, it may be breaking its pattern to use a random move, or may still be following its pattern, only silently. While Supply Droids do give dialogue, this is in response to the previous turn (win/lose/tie) and does not consistently hint at their next move. Static and random Alpha Droid strategies become increasingly varied with fewer hints and more random pattern breaks as the game progresses, so this is not a strict or comprehensive list of rules; regardless of area or static/random, Alpha Droids will usually repeat any winning sign, though they will react to ties differently by area or individual. All static and Supply Droids have every Dinosaur listed in each encounter, while non-Supply random Droids have only one; random Droids with each available option within a given area are assumed to have equal rates of encounter, with Supply Droids likely being less common.

Moves are listed as "(Rock, Scissors, Paper; Hidden)", as this is the Sign ordering the DinoShot menu (usually) automatically sorts related trios of DS Moves into. Alpha Droid dialogue typically uses the word "move" to refer to hand sign instead of Move Cards. Due to the combination of sparse dialogue hints and random pattern breaks, especially for late-game random encounters, it can sometimes be difficult to determine if an Alpha Droid's behavior is the result of having a complicated/variable pattern, or if it commonly forgoes its pattern; even in the same area, some Dinosaurs follow a consistent pattern far more than others. Any strategies marked with "{?}" have been witnessed during silent turns, but have not been confirmed as an intended pattern by dialogue hints and may instead merely represent random breaks that happen to appear to make sense.

Not all Moves are yet known for all opponents, it is an ongoing process. Where partially known, the Moves' MP cost, Element (if Super), and R/S/P sign is noted.
Not all post-game boss battles are fully documented, so speculative initial numbering may prove inaccurate.

Boss
Dr. Z (1) [30 Exp, 30 chell, rare Workbook, rare Small Dino Drink] [scripted win, you will never be attacked]
  • Tyrannosaurus LV1 (Tail, Ram, Throw)
    • This Tyrannosaurus notably has half the HP it should at this level, making the battle 2 turns regardless of your starter choice, as Carnotaurus' attacks are dampened by the bad Element match-up.

Europe

Most Alpha Droids in Europe will attempt to beat a tie on the next turn.

Antarctica

Around this point, random Alpha Droids begin dividing into three strategies per area instead of two, though are erratic enough to not always leave said strategies recognizable in all encounters. When referring to using a high MP move, a Droid may select its Hidden Move even if the other move sharing its Sign has low MP; however, they will not consider their Hidden Move if they refer to using a different move this turn if its Sign matches the move they just used.

Trivia

  • Random Alpha Droids in Europe only use 1-star Dinosaurs, in Asia only use 2-star Dinosaurs, in North America mainly use 3-star Dinosaurs (save the 2-star Centrosaurus), in Antarctica only use 4-star Dinosaurs, in Africa use 4-star Dinosaurs in Kalimba Desert and 5-star Dinosaurs in the Alpha Fortress, and in post-game North America only use 5-star Dinosaurs in East Dust Hills and either 3- or 5-star Dinosaurs in the Secret Base.
  • Most Alpha Droids' Dinosaurs are not available on the continent they are used on, despite the story claiming the Alpha Gang to be acquiring their fossils from the dig sites they overtake.
  • The six Red Super Alpha Droids guarding access to the Super Alpha Dinosaur Mystery Fossils are the only static battles that cannot be fought immediately despite the enemy already being present, as other Alpha Droids set to be fought later (such as in Darkwood) don't appear until they can be fought. The only half-exception is the Deinonychus-using Alpha Droid in South Dust Hills, who is disguised as an explorer NPC until its battle starts.
