Dinosaur King

Dinosaur King

This is a list of all DS Game Battles. It is divided by continent sub-area (both different maps and smaller, usually blocked-off regions of the same map are noted), listing the available random encounters followed by static Alpha Droids and Alpha Gang bosses in order of encounter (refer to the Walkthrough for more details) and describing special cases and postgame content as appropriate. Static Droids are noted as being placed to either be required or skippable; all bosses are required.

Listed for each opponent is their Experience (10x level if random encounter) and chell (money) payout, any possible item drops static encounters may give {random encounter drops by area will be added after enough data is gathered}, each of their Dinosaurs (with Critical Move, Battle Type whether one or multiple varieties exist, level, and Moves), and commenting on their usual strategies (which may appear to vary both during and between battles, especially among static encounters). All foes usually have strategies comprising some combination of consistent plays triggered by each of: debuting a new Dinosaur (usually acting in reference to your or their Critical Sign), being hit by a non-Critical attack (usually acting in response to your winning Move, later sometimes acting in regard to someone's Critical Sign), being hit by a Critical attack (any of the same plays as a non-Critical hit response, and can either be the same or different for a given foe; more likely to be different later on), tying (acting in response to the tying Sign), and winning (usually repeating their play, save for some late battles). Many foes also have randomly-occurring plays that can supersede the expected triggered play on any turn, often using their Critical Move or acting in regard to your or their Moves with the lowest or highest remaining MP meters. Any turn an Alpha Droid fails to give a hint, it may be breaking its pattern to use a random move, or may still be following its pattern, only silently; silent Alpha Gang bosses are more likely than silent Droids to be breaking their pattern. While Supply Droids, who attack randomly each turn, do give dialogue, this is in response to the previous turn (debut/win/loss/tie) and does not hint at their next move, though in some later areas, they may have a common lean towards preferring one or two Signs far more than even chance. Static and random Alpha Droid strategies become increasingly varied with fewer hints, less-indicative phrasing in their hints, and more random pattern breaks as the game progresses, so this is not a strict or comprehensive list of rules. All static and Supply Droids have every Dinosaur listed in each encounter, while non-Supply random Droids have only one; random Droids with each available option within a given area are assumed to have equal rates of encounter, with Supply Droids likely being less common (though anecdotal experience suggests certain encounters are more likely in certain regions of a map, most notably North Euro Plain).

Moves are listed as "(Rock, Scissors, Paper; Hidden (Sign))", as this is the Sign ordering the DinoShot menu (usually) automatically sorts related trios of DS Moves into. Alpha Droid dialogue typically uses the word "move" to refer to hand sign instead of Move Cards. Due to the combination of many unclear dialogue hints and random pattern breaks, especially for late-game static encounters, it can sometimes be difficult to determine if an Alpha Droid's behavior is the result of having a complicated/variable pattern, or if it has no consistent patter or just commonly forgoes it; even in the same area, some random Droids' Dinosaurs follow a consistent pattern far more than other species. Any strategies marked with "{?}" have been witnessed during silent turns, but have not been confirmed as an intended pattern by dialogue hints and may instead merely represent random breaks that happen to appear to make sense. Also, many vaguely-worded late- and postgame static Droids' hints are not well understood, and may either indicate two Move options instead of one, or may be used to indicate different strategies for different Droids.

Not all Moves are yet known for all opponents, it is an ongoing process. Where partially known, the Moves' MP cost, Element (if Super), and R/S/P sign is noted.

D-Lab[]

Boss (tutorial)
Dr. Z (1) [30 Exp, 30 chell; very rare Workbook, very rare Small Dino Drink] [scripted win, you will never be attacked]
  • Tyrannosaurus P (? Type) LV1 (Tail, Ram, Throw)
    • This Tyrannosaurus notably has half the HP it should at this level (100 instead of 200), making the battle 2 turns regardless of your starter choice, as Carnotaurus' attacks are dampened by the bad Element match-up. Its Moves are assumed to be the weaker 1MP-cost Moves of each Sign that appear on other early foes, as it can't win and use them to confirm their names, nor its Battle Type by damage dealt.

Europe[]

Most Alpha Droids in Europe will attempt to beat a tie on the next turn. Random Droids here generally don't react to a player's move running out of MP, and will continue their pattern even if the player can't choose the move which loses to the Droid's choice.

North Euro Plain[]

This static battle is set before random encounters are possible. Reese gives hints in this battle.

Static (required)
Purple Alpha Droid [10 Exp, 30 chell]
  • Irritator R (Defense) LV1 (Tail, Ram, Throw)
    • Starts with Critical Move; beats player's last winning move. Beats the previous tying move.

Before the bridge, Reese gives hints on all turns for random and static battles. In early areas, all random Alpha Droids of a given area share the same strategy.

Random
Purple Alpha Droids (Tail, Ram, Throw) [10 chell]

The North Mine and drilling tutorial must be cleared before progressing.

After the bridge, different-leveled encounters have hints given by either Reese (nearly all turns) or the Alpha Droid itself (most turns), though all share the same strategy; Reese gives hints in most battles in the northern reaches of the map, transitioning to Alpha Droids farther south; Droids giving their own hints may rarely break their pattern starting in this area. The Alpha Droids' differing levels per Dinosaur are by area subdivisions made by bridges and ramps, each Dinosaur appearing at one level in each region, though most levels repeat. The eight subdivisions are: southeast region before the roadblock bridge (detailed above, Reese hints), northeast first ground-level area and plateau (Reese hints, oddly with only 4 of the 6 Dinosaurs), center north area between plateau and 2 bridges (Droid hints), northwest Euro Town Memorial Tree area past the west bridge (Reese hints), center and south region past the middle bridge (Droid hints), center west small area with a static Droid past the west bridge plus the rim around the Memorial Tree area (unconnected but nearby with same levels, Droid hints), center south small plateau with an item case (Droid hints), and southwest plateau with North Dig Site entrance (Droid hints). No other area is subdivided with so much detail.

Asia[]

Most Alpha Droids in Asia will expect the player to beat a tie, thereby losing to the tying move on the next turn. Starting here, random Droids will begin reacting to a player's move being out of MP, but not every time, sometimes continuing their pattern instead.

South Gobi Plain[]

Loses to the previous tying move. On any turn: at least Tarbosaurus may use a move tied for most MP remaining; only Monolophosaurus will use a move that beats any player's move tied for the most MP remaining; at least Camarasaurus may use its Critical Move.
    • Limestone Mountain: Starts by blocking player's Critical Move; uses a non-Critical move after being hit by a non-Critical, and copies the player's winning Critical Move. May on any turn beat any player move tied for the most MP remaning. Loses to the previous tying move {Tarbosaurus unlikely to if silent}. Antarctica[]

Around this point, random Alpha Droids begin dividing into three strategies per area instead of two, though are erratic enough to not always leave said strategies recognizable in all encounters. When referring to using a "move with lots of MP remaining", a Droid may select its Hidden Move even if the other move sharing its Sign has low MP; however, they will not consider their Hidden Move if they refer to using a "different move" this turn if its Sign matches the move they just used.

Different static Droids here may use the same hints to mean different things, or may use vague hints referring to multiple possible plays that appear to act differently between uses; they have very inconsistent strategies and must usually be read turn-by-turn.

Trivia[]

  • By the end of the game, Isisaurus (Giant Fossil), Triceratops (starter choice), Arrhinoceratops (just rare postgame), Parasaurolophus (set late postgame), Carnotaurus (starter choice), and Gojirasaurus (just rare main story) are the only regular Dinosaurs not to be used by foes. Among EX Dinosaurs, Therizinosaurus, Megalosaurus, the featherless Deinonychus, the main anime six, Mini-King, Charonosaurus, and the Awakened Dinosaurs are unused.
  • Aside from Supply Droids, random Alpha Droids in Europe only use 1-star Dinosaurs, in Asia only use 2-star Dinosaurs, in North America mainly use 3-star Dinosaurs (save the 2-star Centrosaurus), in Antarctica only use 4-star Dinosaurs, in Africa use 4-star Dinosaurs in Kalimba Desert and 5-star Dinosaurs in the Alpha Fortress, and in postgame North America only use 5-star Dinosaurs in East Dust Hills and either 3- or 5-star Dinosaurs in the Secret Base.
  • Most Alpha Droids' Dinosaurs are not available on the continent they are used on, despite the story claiming the Alpha Gang to be acquiring their fossils from the dig sites they overtake.
  • The six Red Super Alpha Droids guarding access to the Super Alpha Dinosaur Mystery Fossils are the only static battles that cannot be fought immediately despite the enemy already being present, as other Alpha Droids set to be fought later (such as in Darkwood) don't appear until they can be fought. The only half-exception is the Deinonychus-using Alpha Droid in South Dust Hills, who is disguised as an explorer NPC until its battle starts.
