Backlander

Zeta Point is actually a Timeship called the Backlander (Buckland) that had been shared by the Alpha Gang and Rex's family. It is powered by the seven stones found in a meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs in the Cretacious Period.

Original Series

Prior to the start of the series Dr. Z and Seth ejected Rex's family from the stasis chambers they had been resting in, with his parents disappearing and Rex along with Jonathan going to the present day. Near the series end, Seth blows the cover by flying the Backlander over to Japan after activating it and removing the disguise.

Pterosaur Legends

In the second series, it served a much more detailed role, the D-Team/Alpha Gang used it to chase after the Spectral Space Pirates to save the D-Team's Parents. However when Rex and his family first tried to go back to their time period the engine was damaged by the pirates. When time traveling there was barely any control for going to a specific time. This was later repaired by Reese and Johnathan when the D-Team went back to the present.

When Seth took the Backlander to destroy the Black Pterosaur it destroyed the engine, so when Rex left with the dinosaurs and his parents, they had to leave the Backlander behind and took the Spectral Space Pirates' time machine instead. They could not return to get it because the Spectral Space Pirates' time machine had a damaged engine too, so it could only take one more trip, and that was to their home time, 2127 AD.

Functions

It is noted that the Backlander doesn't have any weapons, unlike the Space Pirates' ship. The Backlander can also cause earthquakes with it's sound waves it can also has a cloaking device for it to stay hidden. The Backlander can also fix things that were out of order. In the last episode of the first series Jonathan fixed everything that was destroyed or that were out of order such things like the Sphinx that was destroyed by Spiny the Spinosaurus, Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was knocked by Pachycephalosaurus, the Great Wall of China that was destroyed by Carcharodontosaurus, Sagrada Familia that was destroyed by Allosaurus and the D-Team's home city that was also destroyed by the Black Tyrannosaurus. In the series finale, the Backlander also repaired all the damages that the Spectral Space Pirates and the Black Pterosaur did to Earth.

Name

In the Japanese version, it was called Buckland, named after the British paleontologist William Buckland.
