Alpha Droids (Alpha Bots), also known as ACT (Alpha Cyber Troopers), are the robots that the Alpha Gang use to do their labor. They are also the common adversaries in the DS Game, summoning dinosaurs to attack the player during random encounters. Some Alpha Droids also appear in Move Cards.

Alpha Droid Models[]




Actroids (simply called "Alpha Droids" in the English dub) are the most common types of Alpha Droids, featuring in the effects of some arcade Alpha Moves, and are the only arcade type also seen in the anime. They are very essential in the Alpha Gang's plans, usually in work labor such as transporting or building machines and building structures. They are typically a blue-purple and have an Alpha Gang symbol on their chest plates. In the DS Game, Alpha Droids' colors and head shapes vary to provide enemy variety, corresponding to areas, enemy levels, and AI difficulty. Actroids can curl up into balls for easy transportation. They are also capable of doing other things such as guarding the Alpha headquarters, as capture nets, for combat, etc. Actroids are also what people would consider as a unified entity, working together to help the Alpha Gang any way they can, however useful or not they end up being.

Anime Alpha Droids are shown to have very low intelligence, their speech limited exclusively to repeating their one or two word directive over and over again ("Searching, searching, searching.", "Catch brats, catch brats, catch brats.", etc.), and having almost no capacity to think creatively to solve problems. They are usually only trouble for the D-Team themselves, as they are little trouble for full-sized dinosaurs to deal with.

In Alpha's Zeta Point, a group of Alpha Droids trying to lure Terry manage to capture both themselves and the Alpha Trio in their own trap. And, as seen in Field of Screams, Alpha Droids are capable of both assembling their folded forms to become a giant ball, and becoming dizzy and disoriented. However, a shake can shock them back into action, whereupon they swarm onto and bring Ace to the ground.

A white variant of Alpha Droid is seen in A Loch Ness Mess, capable of grouping together into large squids to attack Amargasaurus, to no useful effect.

Seth uses an upgraded form of the Actroid model when he betrays the Alpha Gang, called "Super Alpha Droids" in the TCG. They are the toughest model of Alpha Droid in the DS Game.

An anime-exclusive third variant of Actroid is also seen in One Final Move, which the D-Team and Alpha Gang (attempt to) disguise themselves as to evade detection. It was previously seen in the background of Zeta Point repairing machinery.

In the previous episode, a flashback had revealed yellow droids extremely similar to this third variant working with the Ancients at the dig site they uncovered the Element Stones at, likely indicating they were the original model.

In the Caribbean Sea arc, several Actroids are used by Dr. Z to row Ed's pirate ship, one of their few season 2 uses.

In the anime, they are voiced by Darren Dunstan in the English dub.




These Alpha Droids are part of the three Kakutoroid Move Cards (which are identical save Sign), and are seen only in the arcade game. They are large and muscular, red in color, and are strong enough to throw dinosaurs around. They are similar to, yet distinct from, Super Alpha Droids of the anime and DS game.


The arcade move Soft Beam includes an Actroid body mounted on a tank vehicle with a large satellite disk.

Two other anime-exclusive Alpha Droid designs are seen in One Final Move under use by Seth, having previously been in the background of Zeta Point repairing machinery:

  • One is a floating pink ladybug-shaped robot with an eye at the front, which are used as mobile security cameras.
  • The second is a magenta squid-like droid capable of either rolling on three wheels, or using its two back wheels as feet to stand and walk on. This is the model that discovered the D-Team and Alpha Gang attempting to sneak around the Backlander disguised as Alpha Droids. Given that it can speak fluently instead of simply repeating its command over and over, and that the Super Alpha Droids deferred to it for instructions, it seems to be programmed for higher intelligence than other models.

There are five Alpha Droid models of each of three colors which appear as random and static enemies of increasing difficulty throughout the DS Game, summoning 1-3 Dinosaurs to fight the player; the varieties have no in-game designations. In difficulty level, the models follow: the regular Actroid model (row 2 at right), Actroids with ear spikes (row 3), Actroids with spiked frill heads (row 4), and Super Alpha Droids (row 1, oddly), with the floating transport model (row 5) separate from the sequence; and for each model, the colors progress: purple, green, and red.

As random encounters, every type of Alpha Droid will follow one of several standard patterns of attack usually starting either based on their or their opponent's Critical Move and after that depending on whether they won, lost, or tied the previous turn, and will usually give obvious hints as to their next attack. As model and color lean toward higher difficulty farther in, hints will become less common, more vague, random pattern breaks will occur, and Alpha Droids in the same area but with different Dinosaurs will follow different patterns. The humanoid random encounter Alpha Droids in each area will have one Dinosaur of each Element between them (though one post-game area has 2 per Element), whose collective Rarity (and therefore strength) usually increments per continent. They give Experience equal to ten times their Dinosaur's level, some chell (money), and a chance of a weak healing item, or occasionally Book or Drop item.

As static encounters (optional) and mini-bosses (required), the four humanoid Alpha Droid models will usually also follow some pattern of attack, though it varies per Droid instead of per area, they break from their patterns sooner and more often, and often use different hints and less consistent patterns in general. They give far more Experience and more chell than random encounters but are not repeatable. When defeated, they proclaim the Alpha Gang's power before breaking apart and exploding. Whether random or static, however, tougher colors of Droid will sometimes reward less chell than earlier Droids of easier colors.

In some areas, there exists the fifth variety through random encounters, Supply Droids, floating models who use special Dinosaurs, give massive Experience and larger chell payouts, and who attack completely randomly each turn, their dialogue being based on the previous result instead of their next move. They are also uniquely capable of fleeing from battle on their own; it can happen on any turn early in the game (usually leaving between turns 2-6), but later Supply Droids that take longer to beat will instead usually leave after their first winning turn (not affected by ties), sometimes not leaving if they win on an early turn. Purple Supply Droids use Fukuisaurus, Green use Fukuiraptor, and Red use a team of both, and later both plus Gastonia (none of these three Dinosaurs are available to the player through regular means), being the only random encounter foes to use more than one Dinosaur. Most Supply Droids' Dinosaurs are much lower level than the rest of the area to make them comparably easier for lacking a pattern. Later Supply Droids may appear to prefer only using one or two Signs instead of all three, possibly also to make them easier.
